I had never problems with the mentioned three Airlines.
The only condition for the permissible weight of hand luggage was that you had to be able yourself to easily lift it into the overhead compartment.
I never had any problems with the dimensions of my fully packed ThinkTank Airport Commuter either.

Ah, I have the Think Tank "Urban Disguise 60 Classic" which I use now daily in the car to bring extra stuff.

International flights are rarely a problem. Main luggage weighs between 20-23 kg, and hand luggage between 7-8 kg, depending on the airline. Domestic flights in Africa are usually the problem. For my trip to Zambia, a total of 20 kg, including hand luggage, is allowed, and the hand luggage should not exceed 5 kg. So, careful planning is essential.

So basically for paying extra for luggage or higher class seats becomes the norm with big gear.

I just flew from Tucson, Az to Hilo, Hawaii this past week (Southwest Airlines). I carried on most of my photo gear (tripod and monopod were in checked baggage). In my carry on I had my Canon R5 with battery grip, RF 600mm, RF 100-500, RF 24-105, RF 1.4TC, Leofoto BV-20K video tripod head, power bank, cables, and carry straps. I didn’t weigh my bag, but thankfully it was in a roller case. No challenges from the airline for size or weight when taking my gear on the plane (Though TSA did do a cursory check when the X-ray showed the outline of the tripped head lol).
I would have no chance with some of the restrictions mentioned from other airlines outside of the US…

What case/model? I haven’t tried that style yet. Still carrying on my back 😑

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet been able to select a dedicated camera gear travel bag (still deciding between many options I’ve explored via several threads here at BCG), so in the meantime I’ve pressed into service my golf rolling duffel bag :ROFLMAO:.

The part that sucks is 99% of the brands are online only, there’s no way to test out ahead of time. I bought a bag recently, seemed like my laptop should have fit based on screen size, no laptop pocket was too narrow.

The only way to test is in B&H. You may combine pleasure and business to fly to NY.

the problem is we live about 25 minutes from b&h and my wife and i both shoot .

we have no adult supervision when we go and we can do serious damage .

the two of us upgraded everything last september at b&h and having to buy two of everything cost us 35k .

we had no grownups stopping us. ha ha ha
