Bag for Regional Jets

I have the Mindshift Backlight 36L. In it I have my Z8 (unmounted), Z180-600 (hood reversed), Z 800 with the short (6.26 inches across) Zemlin Hood reversed, Z24-120 and some miscellaneous items. My only issue is the bag is too deep (thick) to fit into a regional jet overhead bin. Any thoughts on an alternative bag option that would fit int he regional overheads? Thanks.

for me the gura gear without laptop sleeve worked well for regional jets. It held my Z8 and 9, a z14-24, a Z100-400, a 600tc, a couple lens rain jackets and my rain jacket, a 1.4 tc, and a few assorted little things. The lens hood and monopod went in my luggage and a gura gear Chobi carried my laptop and all other supporting electronics. It fit the overhead bin since it was the thinnest bag I could find. The chobi went under the seat. Since the gura gear bag looks and is a backpack it raised no suspicion. My last bag, an airporter, carried my laptop but I didn’t like that since the keyboard on my laptop squished down and created an imprint on my screen.

If you already own the Mindshift and are looking to buy something that doesn't have a size risk, does it make sense to buy a Pelican and check the Mindshift loaded with your other gear?
I thought about that. It's something that I have heard Jared Lloyd recommend. But if the bag gets lost, I would have no gear for my trip.

Yes. Pretty close to ordering a GuraGear Kiboko 30L+
What lenses are you looking to bring? I'm only bringing 2-3 lenses. 180-600 and either the 70-200/24-70 or the 35-150mm.

My issue isn't the glass but the height of a Z9 attached which means I can't use my Atlas pack which isn't deep enough. I was looking at the mindshift 26l but like the 36l it doesn't allow for much more than gear. I'd like to be able to fit some clothing.

If I had 2 Z8's rather than a Z8 and Z9 I would definitely be using my Atlas Athlete pack.

I also own the Mindshift 36L. It is marketed as a carry-on. I hope to use it as a carry-on but haven't yet. Is anyone having trouble with this bag as a carry-on? With only the camera compartment packed, the only questionable dimension is the 22.4 length vs 22.

I have carried on my Mindshift 36L many times without an issue except when on a regional jet where I was still able to carry it on but it was too thick to fit in the overhead bin so I had to squeeze it under the seat where it only fit about halfway which cramped my legs.
