I was going to mention this lens! I bought it several months ago and it is the most amazing lens I've ever owned. Taking portraits of people at f1 gives fantastic results. As for night photography you can use it under any conditions and have relatively low ISO. I started out with AF lens in the '90's and had never used a manual lens until now. There is something very satisfying about focusing on a very fine piece of machinery. There are some tricks to focus quickly if you are trying for people shots in the street--use peak focusing and have the focus magnification option set to 50% to insure sharp eyes.
I have been considering trying a Voigtlander in the 35mm-50mm range. In particular I was considering the 40mm as well as this 50mm. I don't know if anyone here has compared these lenses or in specific used the 40mm and can report on the experience.

I am a big fan of super sharp primes with creamy dreamy pokey.

He mentioned night photography. The 50 and 135 lenses are not very useful for night photography (nebula and milky way stuff) - I use the 20 1.8 and 24 1.8 S lenses and 100% recommend them. They turn the darkness to daylight while showing the subject in super sharpness

Hello, I have used a Nikon z 24mm - 120mm S lens for night photography. I like to photograph city’s that are glowing under bright lights. The 24mm. 120mm seems to do a reasonable job. I don’t own the 50mm or 40mm lens and heard that they are very good under low light. What are your thoughts on the best lens to use. Larry
The 24-120 is a fantastic general purpose lens but f4 is a bit slow for astro.
The 40mm is only a stop faster and the 50mm f1.2 is a heavy beast..
I dont often recommend third party lenses but have a look at the 16mm viltrox lens ... 🦘

I agree with Roy, f 4 is on the slow end for asto. If what want is wide and fast I’ve found that my oldish F mount Rokinon 20 1.8 works well. It’s MF but it works incredibly well with the af in my Z8. And, if you’re doing landscape work you’ll probably be running it at f5.6 or smaller and at those apertures DoF/hyperfocal will cover most things.

But I do love my 24-120. I used use a 24-85 on my D750 and the new Z is a game changer.
