Geez! The Ferruginous is so cool - hardly ever see those but one of my favorites.

The Ferruginous is special to me too. There's a couple that nest in Malheur County every year. The female was on the nest. The male I took pictures of was probably hunting.Geez! The Ferruginous is so cool - hardly ever see those but one of my favorites.
Thank you very much HRBNice shots!
Thanks so much for sharing! I like all of these images but I feel the pictures of the ferruginous hawk and horned lark are outstanding. My wife and I took a two week camping/birding trip to Eastern Oregon. From Ashland, we stopped in Summer Lake, Malheur NWR, the Zumwalt Prairie, returning through Fort Rock, Cabin Lake and back to Summer Lake. We started on April 15, a little early for returning warblers and shorebirds in this part of the world though there were several migrants here and there. We did see nesting raptors, lots of ducks, and a goodly collection of passerines. I've posted pictures to three collections at mrtk.smugmug.com if you would like to see some of the photographically cooperative birds at these locations. Not all are what you would call artistic, but they reflect a little of what's around at the end of April. My wife and I were at Summer Lake in late April and had a distant view of a bittern calling. We have seen a lot of interesting birds there. I really appreciate knowing about the Golden eagle at Fort Rock. We stumbled onto Cabin Lake a few years ago and saw my first green-tailed towhee and a number of other unusual birds. SE Oregon is really special. I plan on spending more time looking at your SmugMug page. Thanks again.
Just posted a couple Bitterns from today and a recent Green-tailed Towhee from a few day’s agoI’m glad the post was useful to you. Enjoy the pictures.
Besides a great walk, if you have a kayak or some such, bring it.I will be adding Wood River wetlands to my Oregon hot spots list. Lots of places in southern Oregon that are within a day's drive from California.
