A male Black-crested Coquette hovers in front of a blue porter weed flower before dipping in for a drink of nectar. These male hummingbirds have a unique crest of long and thin black feathers, seen well here. Females lack this crest and the black coloring to the head and face. This image was taken in Costa Rica.
