Here's a strange one. On my tablet in landscape or portrait mode when I want to search the search suggestions cover over the search box so I can't type a search.

That is odd. Is your font at the default size? Stuff like that can throw things off.

I assume it is a feature, not a bug, that images posted in threads like "Best of 2023" do not seem to show up in latest or popular images (except for the post starting the thread).

That's correct, only the OP's show. That way, if someone posts a photo in a thread that maybe isn't really supposed to be there (like, "look I have a photo of an eagle too" in a thread someone started to show an eagle photo) that photo won't take someone who clicks it back to that thread and cause issues with people commenting on two different photos - when it really should just be the OP's photo.

Yes, and tried some different sizes, same.
I know there's an update to the software coming out at some point, hopefully that will fix it. One issue is that the quick search box is a third party add-on, so that might be an issue as well. I'll have to see if there are any updates to it.

That's what I figured, the downside here is that in these "Best of XXX" threads, there are some really nice shots posted that won't show up elsewhere unless they are reposted in a different thread.

It's no biggie because it is easier to search this site with Google any way.

Hi @Steve, I didn't want to open a thread for this, so I went this way, although it is more a question that an actual bug report.

Since some time I regularly experience really slow build-up time for the pages of your site, the normal webstie as well as the forum. Sometimes it takes more than a minute until I am even able to log in.
I am pretty sure it isn't a technical problem, because other sites opened in another page of the same browser works normally fast.
So, did you perhaps get indication from other parts of the world about similar problems or even suggestions to overcome the problem ?
I haven't approached it systematically yet, so I am not able to provide information about timing (hours of the day or week days).
As far as I can say up to now, it is independent from the OS or browser used.

Web browsers have a cache that holds web page information, which speeds up loading…but it also means pages don’t necessarily update as expected. With Apple OS and Windows Edge you can clear the cache. This may help speed things up, especially refreshing pages. In Windows, I have Edge settings set to clear the cache when opening the app. Can’t do it in OS Safari….you need to show the developer tap, then from that menu manually click clear cache.

Funnily enough I had the same issues yesterday afternoon, IOS and MacOs all other sites were OK. Did seem to be site specific for me, tried cache deletion etc but it was across multiple drvices. Gave it 10 mins or so and all good so no idea 🤷‍♂️.

Sometimes we're hit hard by bots and it takes a toll on the server. I'm going to talk to my host about it and look for some solutions once I get back and have a chance (currently finishing up workshops in Africa)

Thanks for coming back on this. Your explenation really makes sense, but it is something that you normally don't have in focus unless running a popular website yourself.
Have a great (remaining) time in Africa and come back sound and safe.

Yup, know that but the effect of the cache is not what I meant.
If you have page content in your cache and there is a delay in getting updated cvontent, the browser will apear as if it has normal response time but shows outdated content.
In this case the cahe is already empty, meaning that the browser doesn't have something to show and you see an emtpty page with occasional incremental updates from time to time and the known litlle symbols for "go and get a coffee" :), basically the same what you would get with a real slow internet connection, like e.g. when mobile data falls back to emergency connection with Edge (not the MS browser, but the network standard for mobilde data).
