There wasn't a lot going on around the marsh yesterday but I was determined to shoot something with my shiny new toy. There were some cacklers hanging out in lovely water so what the heck. Cackling geese are a sub species of Canada geese but very small. Maybe half again the size of a mallard duck. Note the short bill.
1) Half of a pair.
2) The other half.
3) This one was standing guard while its mate sat on the nest about 50 yards away. Not sure it's a cackler. It was a little large and the bill looks longer. But certainly wasn't as large as a full sized Canada. Shot this one in DX mode but probably should have backed off and made it more environmental. There was a cool looking stump just out left of frame.
