While I've photographed this species of hummer a number of times, there is one place that is better than most others where I've encountered them. Most folks know of Schwabacher's Landing in Grand Teton National Park along the Snake River. A couple of hundred yards before the end of the road (at the bathroom) is a pull-out that can accomodate 4-6 cars, on a little bench above a feeder creek that goes into the Snake. Walk down the trail 200 feet and be looking for the bearberry honeysuckle bushes. 5-10 feet wide, 4 feet high, red-orange blossoms in spring. The calliope hummers love those bushes and you can find a number of them either hanging on them or around them. Great Stuff.
