12-17-24 I took a quick birding walk to Parkcenter Park where there is a creek and pond 5 minutes from my front door. I wanted to check things out after updating Z9 firmware to 5.10.

Some of birds encountered. Wood Duck, Hooded Merganser, Canada Geese and a Song Sparrow deep in the brush and American Robin deep in a juniper tree.

Seems to be working OK Ken :)

The photos are great, but I am not sure what you meant in your response to Syllog about how the firmware update is working. Have you noticed any difference when shooting stills? I have been putting off updating my firmware because I didn't see any benefits from it for still photography, but I would love to hear your thoughts on what to do.

Why not if there is no negative impact irregardless of emphasis of the update?

I always keep my firmware updated on camera. Nikon frequently puts in un-announced improvements to things like subject detection AF focus in low contrast etc. in the past. This time a small mention item by Nikon so far appears to have fixed this annoying little bug for me "The viewfinder and monitor shooting displays (live view) sometimes caused overexposures when the standby timer had expired and reactivated." And there was no negative impact for me but I always check it out before going out on a big birding outing.

Over the years since the Z9 came out I have noticed that most issues with an update were user error like turning the camera off before the update was done, not doing the second step of a two step update etc.. There were also a few where for some reason the firmware download was corrupted for one or more users either via their internet connection or a hiccup with Nikons ... they were resolved by a new dowload and install.

There were some who did not like something that was changed and ended up rolling back to the old firmware.

As I noted I have been blessed enough to not have any of that happen "yet".
