Cotton carrier and big primes

Right, that's great to hear--but from the official pictures, they seem to have small round slots to insert the foot into, but the last picture seems to be showing a Wimberley (I use that too) compatible foot attached to the carrier somehow, so apologies for being a bit obtuse: how are they kept together, I can't see?
I have no issues whatsoever mounting/dismounting any camera or lens combo. There’s times I will hike in excess of 5 miles with two cameras on mine. It takes less than 5 seconds to be out of the vest and shooting in most cases. Best gear I’ve ever purchased.

I've just bought a Cotton Carrier G3 for my Z8 + Z 800 and find that it sits just a bit too high even when held at an angle. What I would like to do is change the order of the screw bushes on the Hoage replacement foot that I use but I have no idea what tool I need to remove the bushes to gain about 1" of drop. Any ideas or other potential solutions please?

View attachment 99601- each bush just has two shallow holes in it
You will have to have a small spanner wrench or stick to round objects into the holes and use a screwdriver to back them out.

I tried my Cotton Carrier G3 for the first time today but had to tighten the hub on the lens twice even though I had secured it according to the instruction video. As a result the hub was spinning in the vest mount and I couldn't get my rig off the vest for a while. Anyone else had this problem? I don't really want to use Loctite Blue unless it's absolutely necessary as I still want tone able to mount the lens on my Wimberley MonoGimbal. Maybe the answer is just to remember to take a hex key while I'm out though and check the hub regularly.

I have been using the system 4 years or so and have never had one come loose. It has to be on a flat surface such as the bottom of the camera bottom or a lens foot that has a flat/solid surface. Some of the feet such as Kirk don't work very well because of the modular design. I keep my factory lens feet to use with the cotton carrier vest because they are flat and have third party feet for other uses such as the tripod. I also purchased the long cotton carrier plate to use on my 600GM so I don't have to remove anything for using with a tripod/monopod. Hope that helps

That's really helpful thanks. The Hoage foot has two quite deep grooves running along the underside of the plate so I guess they're just isn'y enough surface area to grip.

Is this the plate you mentioned? Looks like it's out of stock at the moment - on their EU site anyway

Yes I just leave that one on my 600 prime and then I have put one of the cotton carrier mounts on each factory lens foot. I have 6 mounts in total and that gives me the ability not to have to worry about changing them out or having one with me. I normally keep one in my bag in case I need to attach it to the camera body or another accessory. The mount won’t stay tight on my Kirk lens foot for the reason you’re stating.

Thanks - I guess I'll have to remember to carry that hex key until they're back in stock

I have the same set but inevitably forget to take it with me - time to tether it to the G3 !
I used to have that problem as well, and I started leaving them beside of my wallet. that way whenever I go out, I stick them in my pocket before leaving the house. That set has saved my butt more times than I can think of, not only for the cotton carrier accessories, but tons of other stuff as well. Even like tripod fasteners and things such as that. If you don’t mind me asking what brand of camera do you shoot? I use Sony and like I said I have two factory lens feet set up with these cotton carrier adapters already on them all the time. I also have two Kirk feet that I use for the 200–600, 100-400 and 70-200 that is arca Swiss with a QD socket. I did have a Wimberley foot on my 600 prime but I really like the padded grip of the factory Sony foot. I put it back on there and use that cotton carrier plate now. This way I can take the 600 directly off my vest and put on either a monopod or tripod without removing anything. I will also put one of the cotton carrier adapters on my Godox AD200 flash during macro season and attach it to the vest as well. I truly can’t imagine not having that verse at this point. I also have the skout which just goes over one shoulder that I sometimes use for lighter rigs. I will hike 3-5 miles often with two camera bodies on there without any issues.

I shoot a Nikon Z8 + Z 800mm f6.3 for wildlife but sometimes use the Z 180-600 if I need more flexibility.

They are back in stock, with a modification - additional small slot on one end , plus a 1/4” threaded at each end. The slot is to put the Peak Design toggle to secure. Got mine earlier this week.

Thanks - the Europe site is still showing out of stock - Cotton Carrier said it will be the end of next week before they are available for me.

My temporary fix is to rotate the washer 90 degrees before tightening so that the slot in the washer is not over the groove on the plate. It seems to have tightened much better than previously but time will tell.

So are you saying they’ve made it different now? I bought the long foot shortly after it came out.

Yes, I called and talked with Jesse a few months back with my concerns and encouraged them to put a QD on it. They didn’t, but did make the modification I mentioned above. I called him about ten days ago and he said they had just come in the day prior. After discussing the change they made, I ordered one. This is my second one, as my 500 PC and 70-200 2.8 use the same lens foot and my 80-400 has a different lens foot. Was up on the North Shore on Lake Superior - didn’t like having to switch foot/plate back n forth. Was much quicker and more convenient to have two foot/plate options, rather than unscrewing one foot and replacing with the other.

I will check into that.

Can you post a picture please as it's not on their Europe website and I can't access the USA site. I mentioned it to their support people and they said there's only one version and that's out of stock.

Ask for Jessie at this number. Good luck!
