D850 in 2020? or should I go Mirrorless

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

As reported by Nikon Rumors, this reduction makes sense with the rumor of a D850 announcement coming early 2021. Regardless of that, the price is great for a great camera that won't be less of a camera after a new latest and greatest hits the market.

According to the B&H and Adorama sites, this reduction is a 3 day sale rather than a permanent price reduction. The price on the NikonUSA site has not been reduced. And no sign of any reduction in Canada (yet). Still, if you are able to buy in the US, the current sale price is a good deal.
Responding to my own message, B&H and Adorama no longer list the 3 day sale limit (except for a 'kit' at B&H). Maybe this will be a longer lived price reduction. Hope it makes its way into Canada :)

I haven't read up on all the rumors but if I had to guess the next iteration of the D8xx series would be similar to the D780. It will probably be close to the same through the viewfinder and have "Z like" capabilities in live view. If this is appealing to you then I would wait. I am struggling between pulling the trigger on a sale priced D850 or a Z7II. The D850 is everything I "Need" in a camera but I hate to give up the option for all that beautiful Z glass. I know I've stated that I was going the ZII route but I'm more undecided than ever now, lol.
I actually had a Z7 and when the release date was announced on the ZIIs I sold the Z7 in anticipation of buy a Z7II. In the interim I figured I would pick up a D500 (Yeah late to the party) and I gotta tell ya I am loving it. So much that I am no longer in a rush to replace the Z7 and I'm not sure that it won't be a D850 doing so. I guess for me it's about the ergonomics. A DSLR just feels like home. If I don't decide that the Z7II has something to offer that I absolutely need then I will probably get the D850.
