Dumb thing you did in 2022?

Accidentally sprayed myself with bear spray. The clip that prevents accidental discharge somehow came loose. The spray was in my right pants pocket and when I swung my leg over to get on my ebike, the button pressed against the camera and 200-600 lens hanging from shoulder. A stream of spray shot straight upward in front of me. Unfortunately a strong breeze was blowing in my direction. Man, did that burn! Did get some nice bear pictures though.View attachment 52621
My fear when carrying bear spray! LOL Glad you had that clearing breeze; that stuff is nasty.

That is a nice shot, were you withering on the ground in agony from the bear spray when you took it? Ha! Ha! I do fear exactly what you said happened...I just got pepper spray a few weeks ago. Thanks for sharing, we all need the reminder.

Boy, photographers seem an accident prone lot. I guess it is understandable when you have a high centre of gravity carrying lots of camera gear, hands often not free because of carrying said gear and an eye out for the next great shot. Please be careful in 2023.

It took me about 45 minutes to recover well enough from the spray to even continue with my photo trip, and even longer until I had comfortable vision. That picture was taken much later in the day.

My biggest goof was on a trip to Jaipur, India that took place during a balloon flight. We got there early in the morning and started taking pictures with my 24 mm lens as they inflated the balloon. Our guide then told us that we needed to get into the basket as we were about to lift off. I ran back to the jeep and put on my 70-200 lens and got in the basket just in time. We lifted off and I was shooting at the beautiful sunrise and fort as we ascended. All of a sudden, my D800 felt lighter and when I looked down, I saw my lens falling away. I then realized that I had not locked my lens (click sound) to the camera body in my rush to get to the balloon. This was a real goof as well as an expensive mistake.

My son had his go off in his kayak while kayaking a whitewater river in Alaska. Burned the heck out of his legs and then he got some in his face when he pulled the spray skirt loose so he could exit the kayak. Very good stuff if you need it, but you pay a high price if you use it on yourself...
