There wasn't much time to alter settings. Immediately prior I'd been shooting the cubs messing around while mom fished and had lowered ss and was in DX mode(posted below). She erupted across the creek without warning. Fortunately with a programmed button I was able to switch back to FX and was still nearly clipping. A second later I had to rotate to vertical format when the boar stood straight up and still had a few frames clipped along the sides.
Not in a boat. It got a bit dicey when he started back pedaling our way but fortunately the sow relented before he came very far.
The 180-400 is really the perfect lens for that location. I used it most of the time. I had it tripod mounted and mostly set low to the ground. When the fight happened I snatched up the Z8/400 4.5.
