eclipse

While shooting the eclipse this past April 8th with my D3500 using a Nikon DX VR AF-P Nikkor 70-300 1:4.5-6.3 GED lens the camera was set to M on the Mode dial and MF in the display focus mode options. Looking through the Viewfinder eyepiece I had no problem focusing on the sun but if I switched to Live view the sun now was way out of focus and I was unable to bring it into focus. I tried to use the + button to see if that would allow me to get a more focused view but that was a no-go. Does anyone have any idea what I might have been doing wrong?

Not sure this is related but if using live view on my D500, I need to have appropriate exposure settings in order to see what I am shooting on the display.

Were you using a solar filter?
