Epson 8550

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I'll try to print on them with the 8550 by the end of this week and I'll let you know how I like them.
I said I'd try to do this and get back with my thoughts, but other things have gotten in the way. Specifically, I can't find my box of paper sample packs; but I continue to seek them and will be printing when I can.

I do know that the quickest way to find them is to just order and pay for replacement sets of papers. :ROFLMAO:

Have you downloaded Red River Papers ET-8500/8550 profiles? I use them with the Epson Print Layout application, and it's given me very good results.

As far as the print quality of the ET-8550, I see very little difference between its prints and those of the SC-P900. My experience is that the casual user cannot tell a difference in most prints from them.

And BTW, the ET-8550 is now on sale at Office Depot and Staples for $599.99, and at epson.com for $579.99, if anyone is looking to purchase one any time soon. As of right now, some retailers still list it at $799.99.
Yep…grabbed them. I ordered a sample pack to compare to the Epson Premium Luster…I’m especially interested in the Polar Metallic. I’m definitely not going to be a paper collector though…probably…because printing the same shot on 5 papers to see which one I like best is too much like work😀. I will pick a couple I like and go from there.

I am liking what it does though…haven’t printed anything 13x19 yet but am working on a group to print large and sticking with the cheaper letter size Premium Luster until I get them the way I like…the large paper is 4 bucks a sheet and I’m thrifty plus letter size works fine to fine tune the image. I ran the macOS monitor calibration…not quite as good as a hardware calibrator…but it’s close enough so the screen pretty much matches the print.

It's a good call to optimize your prints on smaller sheets, but I'll raise your 13x19 to 13x38 and tell you that you have to take and print some South Florida Landscape Panoramas.

The next time I make it down that way, and who knows when that'll be, I'll bring a couple of sheets of their 13x38 and 8.5x25 panorama paper with me for you to use. I've made a few heron and eagle prints of close ups on the panorama papers, and have even had people ask to purchase them. One of the shots I really want to get is an Everglades shot with a solitary thunderstorm in the photo. If I get what I want with this shot, I'll possible even print it on a sheet of 17x48 (or 17 x 50) matte canvas.

BTW, were forecast to get 4-9 inches of snow or the equivalent of another type of freezing precipitation on Tuesday. The county plans to shut down our bridges starting at noon tomorrow, Tuesday Jan 21. It should be fun. If we get blanket of snow, I'm going to try to get to the local beach for some snow shots. I just have to find where my camera bags were placed in the aftermath of the Christmas decorating frenzy that went on here in December.
