External zoom, what are the pros and cons?

I don’t shoot on a gimbal often but when I did I had the Tamron 150-600. I set it to balance zoomed out as that is where I typically shoot with it. Shooting zoomed in on a Gimbal doesn’t make so much sense to me but I am no expert on this subject. The only lens I have currently that would most benefit from a gimbal would be the 600pf esp with the 1.4tc and it is a prime.
