Conservation Status : Endangered
About 12% of the species (perhaps ~35,000 individuals worldwide) spend the southern summer in Moreton Bay which, at 27ºS, can be thought of as Australia's equivalent of Tampa Bay, Florida.

Despite its scientific name, the Far Eastern Curlew ventures nowhere near Madagascar.
