Female Pileated Woodpecker

Patience and persistence paid off yesterday as this female Pileated Woodpecker finally swooped down from the canopy and grabbed hold of a tree in some reasonably good light and began pecking at it for quite a while resulting in this frame.

She’s at eye level to me but at the lower base of a tree on an ascending Hill with some remaining green shrubs in the background. Lucky it came together.
