I wanted to put in FX only since it's what I use most of the time, but it's still not all of the time. I still grab a DX camera from time to time - usually when I need something really compact (like the Z50).
Have you given up on the D500. I use the D500 with the Nikon 500mm f5.6 PF and love the results it gives me, I tried the D850 in crop mode with the 500mm PF, but don't like the results as much. When I used the 500mm PF with the Z7, I tended to get color banding so I gave up that combo till I get the Z7 II.

My D500 was stolen and I never purchased a replacement. I have thought about it, but the truth is I just don't use DX all that much. I have plenty of FX gear and lenses and my D850 / Z7ii /A7r4 are all just fine if I need to crop to DX size. So, I just have't had much of a need for a new D500. I still like the camera though :)

The D850 with a DX crop of an image still leaves me with a 19MP file and so I sold the 20.9MP D500 and bought a second D850. The D500/D850/
D5 cameras have the latest Nikon autofocus system which includes a dedicated autofocus processor. I saw how much more effective Group AF was with the D500 compared to a D7200 or D750.

For BIF and other fast moving subjects I get more keepers as I have fewer problems with the framing of them and fewer shots with them leaving the frame or a body part cut off or having nothing of their environment in the shot. This is particularly the case when shooting from a boat where the camera to subject distance is relatively fixed.

I shoot with four DX DSLRs. Use both FX and DX lenses. Images are very sharp and Nikon nice. Shooting DX gives me a broader choice of a dozen DX and FX lenses and a 1:5 crop factor for distance. Lighter too.
