SETTINGS
You create all you camera settings IN THE CAMERA using the various menus. The camera holds those settings until you change them - they are NOT saved automatically to a card in your camera. In fact, you can set up your camera settings without a card even being IN the camera.
You can then create a back up copy of your settings on card by going into the menu and saving the settings to a separate card that ideally you will NOT use when shooting. You can label this card as a back up card and store this card so you don't confuse it with the cards you use for shooting. Then if during a shooting session, you change several of your camera settings and want to go back to your original settings, you can take that card with your back up camera settings and load the settings into the camera to erase the changes you made during shooting.
SHOOTING
Once you start photographing images, the images are saved to the CFe/SD cards in slots 1 and 2. Ideally you are NOT using the card that contains your back up camera settings.
After you have copied or moved those images to an external hard drive on your computer, the CFe/SD card(s)can be formatted. That will erase everything on the card - resulting in an empty card for you to use again.
