What bothered me, was the low pixel resolution. After cropping, the resolution really takes a hit. Specially the outdated sensor the Z30 has.

Which made me thinking, about the X-T5.
Can you use Z lenses on the Fuji?

I’m afraid you’ll see that on the X-T5, as well. Perhaps moreso, especially depending on the lens.

The X-T5 will give you more detail than the Z30 (or a 24mpixel full frame body), for sure. But if you’re looking at your Z8 and thinking “this is what 45mpixel” looks like and expect the X-T5 to be the same, you’re going to find it trails behind your expectations. There’s more noise, softer fine detail, and a bit less DR (unless you leverage the high DR modes).

To oversimplify, I’d figure the 40mpixel Fuji to have the general characteristics of a very good APS-C sensor, and the resolution of perhaps a 35mm pixel FF sensor? Huge oversimplification, but you get the idea.

I’ve seen mention of that Borozoya Z adapter, and I heard someone saying it worked, but I can’t find much about it on the Internet. You can adapt EF and F lenses with a Fringer adapter, but I have not done so because one of the prime draws of Fuji X for me is the compact lenses with nice controls (ref: 16/2.8, 35/1.4, 56/1.2). I did try the 500PF on my X-T4 for a while and it did well.

To be honest, Joel, if there was any way you could try out an X-T5 for yourself, I highly suggest doing so instead of trying to make a data-based decision. People either love or hate Fuji. The controls, the film sims, and the XTrans sensor quirks are much-loved by some of us, but others see a bunch of dials, some features they don’t use, and a weird high-ISO look.
