This was the first time I've tried panning motion blur with an owl. I've been shooting them for years so I know how slowly they fly, and even more slowly when gliding. But that's never been so apparent than when trying to get some motion blur and streaking of the background. These were shot at 1/80th of a second and the background barely started to streak. I've got some shot at 1/30th of a second with nice background streaking as well, but still not sure if I like the amount that the face is in focus so they might be discarded. These were shot in a series and once the owl got closer to the horizon the pink hue from the sunrise was just starting to come through the trees, which is the reason for the slight pinkish background in the second shot.
