Grey import (uk) Nikon Z9 - would you buy one

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Ah, yes, should have made that clear. I am indeed in the UK. But, thanks for all replies and for such a large sum of money involved I will go the safe route with WEX. Cheers all and thank you.

Don't know if you've purchased yet or not, but Nikon USA has refurbished Z9s on sale for $1000 off the normal price. If you are looking to save money, this may be an option.

There’s a big difference buying a grey import with a warranty from the importer, or a factory refurb. The grey import definitely will not be supported by the manufacturers. The whole point of a dealer network is to promotes “official” sales … with full warranty and support. The grey importer is basically stealing business from the official dealers…of course the manufacturer won’t support grey imports.

the subject is the UK market. A number of grey importers in the uk do have excellent reputations, but I’d personally never use them. I support local dealers; I prefer Nikon repairs; I prefer Nikon refurbished with the Nikon warranty. You know you’ll get Nikon parts….even if they’re made in China!

I brought my A1 grey market from Panamoz with 3 year warranty 2 years ago before it was available from the UK dealers and paid £1400 less than retail price . I've never had any problems with it yet but apparently if there's any faults under warranty to just send it to fixation and Panamoz pay the bill .
Obviously my choice but only time I use grey market is if the product I want isn't on the UK dealers shelf , if you can buy the Z9 off the shelf now I'd rather buy it from somewhere like WEX

I bought my Z9 from Panamoz. Grey import, arrived in a week instead of months. 3yr warranty and a good company to buy from. Currently offering big discounts on the Z9 and A1. With some of the stories I hear about Nikon blaming defects on equipment being dropped I have no hesitation in buying from this company. Your choice!

I have bought Grey Import Nikon Cameras from, Panamoz, they offer a 3 Year UK/ EU/ Warranty, on camera & Lenses, when i have had a problem with one of the cameras, i contacted Panamoz, they told me to send it to Nikon Repair, this i did, & if there was a charge, Panamoz paid for everything, no problem whatsoever , they are a brilliant Company to deal with, and i would have no hesitation dealing with them again.

I have seen 2 online retailers selling the Z9 at 20% less than mainstream retailers, offering 3 year warranty on them. These are grey imports but 20% is quite a bit of savings. Would you buy one, pitfalls ?
I've purchased sigma/nikon/fuji lenses, Fuji XT2 and XH, Nikon Z6 and a Z6ii from e-infinty and onestop over the last 8 odd years. Never had a problem, always delivered as if delivered locally here in the UK with some big savings. I'm now looking at the Z9 and can see panamoz have this at £3895, that's about £1500 cheaper than Wex. Also note you only get 12 months warranty anyway from the likes of Nikon so you would have to be very very unlucky if something goes wrong. I've never had to use warranty within that 12 months period on anything I have purchased. Also they do offer a repair/ warranty in country however as I've said never had to use it not sure how that works. I'm quite risk adverse however never concerned me one bit from buying from HK especially paying with paypal as you are covered.

A freind has just bought a Z9 from One Stop Digital - £70 cheaper than Panamoz and it came with an FTZ too. Many years ago another friend bought a Canon 20/30 or 40D - can't remenber which from One Stop Digital and when he got it there was a fault. He emailed them and they told him to return it. In just 7 days he had the replacement camera. In the UK there is a dealer - HDEW - who specialises in grey impots and they have a deal with an authorised repairer to do warranty work which can be up to 3 years for a small extra cost.

I have dealt with Panamoz over the Years, they are a brilliant Company to deal with, when i had a problem, they dealt with it , with no questions , or fuss, i would highly recommend them. I sent my camera back to Nikon Repair Center, they invoiced me, i then paid, and within a Day Panamoz reimbursed my money back into my account.

I have bought more several cameras and lenses from Panamoz , E-infinity.

Had a problem with an R5 that would not fire up. Contacted the seller who apologised and offered several suggestions just to be sure it wasn’t something I’d over looked. A new body was received before the faulty one had been returned (free postage).
Everything was cordial and pleasant .
I feel there would be no problems for repairs during the guarantee period.

Outside that time you would pay anyways for repairs no matter where bought, as indeed my Canon 400 DO repaired at Canon Professional Services Elstree Borehamwood who are brilliant, no questions asked, it’s business for them.

So I’m happy to save and use such companies I know of others who have positive comments also

Looks like both compaies are at the top of their game. Panamoz are quite rightly held in high standing by the photographic community. Over the close to 20 years years I've been using One Stop Digital I've always found their prices cheaper so have continued to use them. I've never had any issues with anything I bought but have confidence in their customer support should I encounter a problem.
