Hawkfish are small predatory fish that typically sit quietly on coral heads and dart off to ambush smaller prey. Here are two varieties.
First the Stocky Hawkfish, commonly found in shallower water, to about 3m/10ft and feed on crabs, urchins, small fishes. They blend in well with the coral.
Second, the more common Freckled Hawkfish present from shallow down to 40m/130ft. They feed primarily on smaller fishes.
Since they stay still, they are not hard to photograph.
