Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, WI. April 2018, Nikon D750, Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6 w/ TC14EIII. Handheld, walking the boardwalk. What a lovely place!!!
I was able to pick off a couple of numbers on the foot band along with the Neck band. Using the USGS site they were able to identify the bird and when it was banded. They sent a simple certificate that is also included below.

Nice, but why tag the neck and not the leg or shoulder? Just wondering here?
He is banded on the leg too. The bands are much easier to see in the full resolution shots. The neck ring supports tracking without having to capture the bird or get a good enough photo to pull the band number. Despite the tight look, the collar does not interfere with eating or any other functions.
