How big of a deal is weather sealing in teleconverters?

I have a pretty good deal for a prime lens with TC-14E II, but I read in some reviews that this teleconverter doesn't have a weather sealing, as opposed to TC-14E III.

But what does it mean in practice? How much worse would be using that mk II TC instead of a bare lens when it comes to weather resistance?

I'm usually pretty careful with my gear and don't shoot at all when it's raining.

I don't think it'll be much of a factor, especially if you're not shooting in rain. As a failsafe, pack a grocery bag/rain sleeve of some sort in your bag.

I have both the TC-14E II and 14E III, the noticeable "weather-sealing" difference is a slim rubber gasket that goes around the camera mount.

I see. I suppose this is the element Steve mentioned here, in the video segment about teleconverter field tips.

I'd say it's critical. Once water has entered the TC, it's also in either the lens or the camera or both.
However, if you don't shoot when it's raining, then there is nothing to worry about.
