How do you protect your equipment against theft?

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Another idea that makes your equipment more difficult to identify is to use some good quality electrical tape over logos etc.
I try to keep all logos, lettering or any other identifiable markings on any equipment I use to a minimum wherever possible.
As an example I have shown a lens before and after.

Gaffers tape means definately steal it lol it must be worth something! Same with big white lenses.
I forgot to mention that I have two large dogs with strong protecctive instincts. Anyone who comes round the door gets an earful. People intent on burglary tend to avoid aggressive dogs.
Nothing a couple ribeye steaks can’t take care of! My dogs one of them would love everyone he ever met the other sounded like she wanted to tear limbs off with strangers. But man she would turn to your new best friend for food.

In Alabama there’s an extremely high chance you’ll get shot breaking into a home. It’s pretty risky for thieves and the laws are all in the homeowners side.

Thieves are clever through lots of practice.

In my car I isolate the boot release switch, ie take out the dash switch unplug the loom and tuck down, reinstall the switch , bingo.
The boot becomes a virtual safe. I have a LPG gas tank in the boot preventing access via the rear seats, you can place a sheet of thin ply inside the boot and tac it with a couple of screws.

If you have a Suv with rear side windows and internal access you have a problem.

If you have a metal draw containment it centrally helps, just add a well-hidden slide bolt with a key lock as most well-seasoned thieves have a device like a large screwdriver or small crow bar to open locks doors and draws etc.

In public spaces thieves are aware of alarms going off so often they just smash a window reach in and grab what they want, in isolated locations their more daring and will go through things more regardless of the alarm going off.
You cant stop the dedicated thief, you can only make things a little more difficult hoping the move on.

There are some very well made points in this post.....following a safe protocol and insurance as we know is key.

Only an opinion
