Just recently looked at a photo on this forum and wanted to see camera settings. I can download and see EXIF data via LR, but it would be nice if we could click a button to read the metadata temporarily.
If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).
Not at this time. The thing is, anyone can take a screen shot and get the photo anyway. At least if they download it, it has your EXIF and copyright in it.You can download photos from here? Is there no right click disabled?
At this time, there's not. I'm looking for an add-on that might allow it though, I think it would be helpful. However, depending on your web browser, there may be a plug-in available for viewing EXIF. I know Chrome has one called Exif viewer classic. When installed, you just mouse over an image and it'll show you the info. You can search it here:

Sorry, I mistook your request. I agree, it would be nice to see the EXIF of images posted here.Hi Garrett,
When a picture is posted on this forum, I would like to see it's exif data on this website by just clicking a button.
Now, the only way I know of to see the exif is to download the picture, then open in a photo editor.
Other photo forums allow you to do that, I was wondering if there was a way to do it here.View attachment 408
There was a great bird photo in another post. When I quickly looked at exif, I saw it was shot on Nikon 200-500 @ 500mm at 1/800 speed. At that point I was curious if the photo was taken with a tripod. This may not be a popular opinion, but what if EXIF isn't shared? A lot of people spend a lot of time on settings and not what makes the image good, or not.
I've used the chrome plug-in and it is nice. I personally I learn more when I hear about the story of the shot, planning that went into it than the camera or settings. I know I can not look at settings, but adding the settings tends to detract from hearing what made the shot.

I would differ with that. To me it's important to know which camera settings were used, especially if it's an image made under challenging conditions. I found out for instance that it requires a shutter speed of 1/4000 sec or higher to freeze the wings of a hummingbird. On another occasion I managed to get a pin sharp image of a leopard at 500mm extension at 1/30 sec shutter speed, without tripod. Becoming familiar with the settings like ISO, aperture and shutter speed we all learn where our own limitations lie. By looking at the exif information of a posted image I can quickly determine whether it was a challenging shot for the photographer or not. This may not be a popular opinion, but what if EXIF isn't shared? Thanks for the tip Steve! I just installed the free plug in and when you mouse over it says either "no exif data" or shows it. I don't generally care but there are times it's nice to see what somebody set for a shot....guess I'm now accessing your site on Chrome instead of SafariAt this time, there's not. This is actually a really old thread. You should see EXIF info under any image that's uploaded to the site (and has EXIF info embedded). See:Thanks for the tip Steve! I tend to agree. However, we had tons of requests for it so I dropped the cash to have it done.I find the EXIF data mildly interesting. However, the exact settings for that particular image is of limited value. Even the same photographer with the same camera taking the same photo at a different time or on a different day may well have different settings. I'm not "pooping" the idea just I'm not sure if it would be highly valuable since there are so many variables that go into a photograph.
