At a crossroads and looking to trade my Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR & Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR for the Z 70-200 (Z9 is what I use) and all most an even trade. I have the Z 14-30 f4, Z105mm 2.8, and don't think I'll miss the 24-70mm range. 70% of the time I'm using my 100-400mm. Looking to those that have more experience with the f mount and z mount on the Z series lenses. I do have two adapters for the f mount , but I enjoy using the 14-30mm and not having to use the adapter.

Thank you in advance,

Mark

Mark, another option for you is to sell your 70-200 f2.8 and not replace it with the Zmount version. I bought the 100-400mm S for my Z9 and have not used my 70-200mm F mount on my Z9. I opted to get the Z mount 24-120mm f4. Other friends have bought the 24-200mm f4.

It really comes down to whether you need a wide and expensive f2.8 lens on a Z body and at what focal length.

I saw a marked improvement in every Z over F, except for the 14-24 which is identical. I don't use teleconverters and I converted everything over to Z except the 500pf.

I thought about selling my 70-200 E FL for a while, but the reality is that it's one of my least used lenses. But when I need it, I need it, just not worth buying the Z version. Is the Z version better, yeah, but for what I shoot with it, it's really irrelevant. The biggest shortcoming I see with the F mount lenses on the Z system is the noise level when shooting video..problematic when you're using a camera mounted mic...or worse yet, internal mic.
