Lark Sparrow at Sunset

This image was made a couple of years back in Utah at Sunset.

Shot with D850 and 600 f/4 and 1.4 TCIII

I like how the sparrow is captured while it looks around to see if it is safe to eat its snack! Good moment, the story comes through.

I'm a beginner on post processing (and generally would rather be shooting), but I wonder if the background could have a little more separation from the subject in lightness or darkness? A little more contrast? Maybe also play around with a tad less space to the right of the bird, though I like how it is looking into more space than on the left. If it was centered, I don't think it would have the sense of imminent motion, as it does now. That's another strength in the photo (to me).

The edge between the bird and the background looks very hard especially on its head. Was a mask used on the bird to separate it from the background?
