Lightroom classic

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I use Topaz plugins with LR Classic all the time.
sh1209 has clarified that he's talking about non-classic, but for more clarification, this is Adobe's official app naming:
  • "Lightroom" - this is the newer cloud/mobile non-classic version
  • "Lightroom Classic" - what we used to just call Lightroom, but Adobe marketing decided use that for their big push to use the mobile / cloud version (and sell more cloud storage, which is a big profit center for them).
Lightroom Classic still has several advantages. You really only want to use Lightroom if you really need cloud computing / storage and can live without the additional functionality of Lightroom Classic.

The following link has an excellent comparison table between the two versions. It's a couple of years old, but still relevant. The LrC-only (not available on Lr) biggies from this list I can't do without:
  • Plug-ins
  • Tethered capture
  • Sync settings
  • Dual monitor (secondary screen)
  • Much larger magnification (for pixel peeping during edits)
  • Local catalog (and all the metadata it stores)
  • Compare, survey, and reference views
  • Soft proofing
  • Camera calibration

Well said and described.

Agree entirely, personally I hope LRC is around for a while yet.

And me LRC works well for me and I’ve invested alot of time in learning etc plus I find the catalog system is very useful. I’m really hoping it doesn’t go away soon.
Yeah me too. I think Lightroom will get there one day but I would guess it will be a few years. I think they would lose a lot of customers if they try to do away with it.

Has anyone had any issues with the newest version of Lightroom classic? I am having episodes of it shutting down out of the blue, the masking lines disappearing when making a mask and really bogging my computer down. This happens on my intel iMac as well as my M3 MacBook. I’m contemplating rolling back to the previous version. I went to look on Lightroom queen but apparently the site is shut down.
I was experiencing LRC crashes on Wednesday afternoon. After a restart, the problem went away.

My setup: 2021 Macbook Pro, M1, 64 GB memory, Sequoia 15.0.1, LRC 14.0.1

It seems slower on my 2020imac and m3 MacBook as well. Definitely using more ram on both since version 14. There’s a couple folks on Lightroom Queen stating the same.
