The other person who bought it is probably just as happy as you are unhappy.

That's not how we humans are wired. The instinct to stop a loss is much stronger than acquisition.

On an up note, the Foxes stopped by today. It's just mother and daughter now. The 2 male kits are likely off finding mates, maybe dad is with them. Don't see them as often, the pickings in the garden next to me are getting slimmer. The 200-500 still does a good job even though a bit heavy and the zoom rotation longer.

way cool on the fox kits.

At one time I was a very serious target shooter. When gunpowder was in short supply a major retailer protected your cart for a limited amount of time to allow you to check out. If you didn't check out your items would go back up for sale. Those waiting were given a time to check back to see if the item was sold. Much more civilized, fewer hard feelings, no sales lost.
Interesting you would mention target shooting, the item that I was talking about was a very nice (and valuable) custom made flintlock rifle. I agree, holding in the shopping cart for some stated amount of time would be preferable. I don't think anyone ever accused Nikon's website of being avant garde. :)

by the way, color me jealous with your fox kits.

Lighting was harsh today but this is the female kit and mom is lying down keeping an eye on things.

Sounds to me you might have missed out because someone was just moments ahead of you and Nikon‘s site hadn’t caught up yet. Kind of like bidding on ebay and since there was only the one lens you were out of luck. It does make me wonder how to get around this happening. Also I could be completely wrong.

I got an email from Nikon Customer Service Friday that there may be good news Monday so I hung out next to the computer all day and NOTHING. Nikon announced a sale which does not include the 180-600 but that's it.

I was hoping for good news to report.

Sorry to hear that. FWIW, on a lark I snagged a great deal on a used 400 f/4.5 which I picked up for less than what I had sold mine for after I had acquired a 186. Lord knows why I picked on up again. Look around, you might be able to find a deal on a used 186.

I got nothing. Nikon Customer Service said they would help but so far has not come up with the lens. I was afraid of that. The lens I tried to buy was the only refurbished 180-600 I have ever seen.

I had a refurbished 180-600 in my cart for $1223.95 and Wells Fargo Credit Card or Nikon diddled me around with Security BS and Someone Else got MY LENS.
I have found being in Canada and buying something in the U.S. with my U.S credit was like pulling teeth. Once 1 shipment was completed at Adorama (as an example) I guess they figured I was not scamming them and no problems after that.
