Merganser's Mouthful

We had a break in the rain last week and got to the pond early and caught a couple Mergansers close to shore hunting. It wasn’t too long after one came up with a whopping catfish, more he could handle, he struggled, had a hard time lining it to swallow, and eventually swam away in the other direction. In the end I don’t know if he was able to swallow it, but was fun to photograph.

Great shots! I’ve seen Common Mergansers swallow some pretty big fish. I bet he got it down eventually
