Yeah, it's hot here, too. And the air is filled with smoke from Canadian forest fires.Sorry...I am unable to read correctly due to excessive heat! I for some reason read that as 500 mm PF....I suppose wishful thinking on my part!
Oh yeah ....I forgot that...the smoke was in my eyes along with the sun.....!
Alan, just curious. Are you shooting the butterflies handheld/VR or with a support?Thank you, Andrew. Yes, the 300mm PF I have is a nice close-up lens for larger subjects (even smaller ones if you don't mind cropping a lot). I've considered the 500mm PF, but the minimum focusing distance is twice that of the 300mm (3.0 m vs 1.4 m) with less magnification (0.18x vs 0.24x). I wouldn't mind having a 500mm PF, though. I'm trying out the 300mm PF with a TC-14E iii that I just purchased used, and it appears that combination is quite sharp. Keeps the minimum focusing distance, too.
I'm usually shooting handheld with VR (Sport) on, manual exposure at f/8-11, 1/320-1/500, Auto-ISO up to ISO 1600. With the small apertures, it takes fairly good light.Alan, just curious. Are you shooting the butterflies handheld/VR or with a support?
