Nikkor Z 600 f6.3

I think the tamron is actually 150-500mm. I looked at one recently and it is lighter than my 150-600mm g2. It looks like a nice lens for $1200. The 6 yr warranty is nice. I'm told that you can send a lens in for free cleaning and service during the warranty period.
But the 100-400 is faster and probably better optically. If you have a 600mm already, and can afford the extra cost, it is in my opinion a better match to the 600mm. It's probably more useful (at least to me) because of the 100mm.
I don't have experience with either but this is what I'd be considering. Both lenses are fairly close focusing, I believe.
I put the tamron on a z8 while in the store and it felt better than my 150-600 g2 on my d500. I was mainly looking at the z8, for informational purposes, can't afford it yet. The tamron rep checked the firmware version of my g2 to see if it is current.

Thank you all I will probably go for the Z 100-400, But when I get back in the States in March I will try both of them and make a final decision but I'm leaning towards the Z.

Interesting....
I kept the 400 f4.5 and added the 600 6.3.
In saying that I dont use 300mm - 400mm at all, and put a 1.4xTC on the 70-200 f28 if I need that FL.
This image and many like it swayed my decision to keep the 400.

I thought about keeping the 400 4.5 but I figured to add a zoom lens since I already have the 600 PF, I also think the zoom lens would pair much better like on a safari. Nice shot btw;)

Just sold my Z 400 4.5 and Z 180-600 to purchase the Z 600 f6.3 and I'm more than impressed with the lens you can definitely see how much faster the AF is , But as another lens to complement it I was thinking about the Z 100-400 or even the new Tamron 150-600 what do you think?
Thanks.
You had the lens to complement it, the 180-600 and you sold it ?

I've been shooting the 600PF for the last few weeks and I love the clarity! I chose to add the 1.4 and 2.0 TC to my 70-200 (vs buying yet another lens) to fill in that gap. Was contemplating the 100-400 instead of the 70-200 with TCs but I like the versatility of shooting 2.8 when needed/wanted (without the TCs of course). If money wasn't an issue, I may have opted for both...but the Z9 purchase pretty much sealed my fate

I did the same not only because of the excellent IQ but also for the relatively fast aperture. I also own the 100-400 and love it for environmental portraits and the near macro capabilities. I am definitely using the 600mm most often though as I enjoy bird photography.

100-400 makes natural sense to pair with the 600PF. Makes for a decently compact kit.
That’s my thought…although TBH I’m going to try I think an outing with the 600, 400/4.5 and the 70-200 and see how that works. I would have the latter in a bag and since the two primes are on straps connected to the lens foot it’s easy to pop the body off for the shorter zoom when needed. Although TBH…for my needs the 100-400 has plenty of IQ for screen output which is where mine goes and the size and weight of it is just fine. Steve’s video rightly points out that the 180-600 is better at 2:1 in LR…and one can’t rogue with that. But pixel peeping isn’t nearly as relevant as “is it good enough at output”…and to my eyes the 100-400 is as good at final output as the 400 and my 50lPF before I sold it. I cancelled an order for the 180-600 and got the 600 instead for weight. I’m rarely going to carry only 1 body on an outing and with the 180-600 what other lens would I take…and is the extra worth it to me? Answer is nope…and although I’m going to try the 2 primes with the zoom as a third lens my guess is that the loss of flexibility will overcome any better IQ, especially at output which is what counts.

I just did exactly that. I added a Z100-400 to my Z600 and it's a perfect match. It focuses very close for almost macro quality photo's and gives me a lot of flexibility for closer subjects. The IQ is extremely good for a zoom.

Ok everyone first Merry Xmas to all!
Love this lens but what's up with the lens hood? Is there a fix for it?
What don't you like about it? Zemlin gives you choices, but not inexpensive ones. If you are talking about the attachment you need to align the larger circles with the solid dot on the lens. Merry Christmas, cats think it's time for presents at 4am here.

Not that I don't like it but it's tough to attach I'll try what you say, Hope you get a couple lenses for Xmas, I didn't get squat and it's 4:30pm here 😂😂

I just picked up a 600pf and now I’m trying to decide which lenses to keep. I also have the 400 f4.5, 100-400, 70-200, and 1.4 TC. I initially thought I would sell the 400mm, but I really enjoy that little lens. I’m going to give it a few months before deciding. They are all great lens. Nikon has done a wonderful job rolling out new lens options for Nikon shooters in the last couple of years.
