Nikon 180-600mm price increase? (USA)

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

The 200-500 came out so so cheap then progressively ramped up in price as it gained popularity, then feel into - here is the cash back promo deal $250 off, then back to retail.

A lot of retailing in general particularly supermarkets seem to raise prices often blaming inflation then have regular discount sale prices, not saying that s the case here but its a global trend selling the perception its on sale or discount every other week.

My feeling with some of the camera gear is often the prices have gone up only to build discount margin in to pay back later.

You will see the 180-600 on sale or some cash back offer periodically.

I bought a puffer jacket RRP $199, i watched the bi monthly sales at down to $99, then at the end of winter season while stocks lasted i grabbed two at $59 each on end of line clearance, i do the same with footwear $252 down to $69........

Only an opinion

since my wife shoots too we have to buy two of everything .

so luckily we ordered thousands of dollars of gear last month while the rebates were on as well as saved 200 on the 180-600

Lucky timing!

Personally I'm kicking myself for not grabbing the 100-400, but I'll just get it on the next big promotion. Hopefully the 180-600 will be included in the next one as well so that the people who were not quite ready to pick one up can save a bit off the new price as well.

Definitely glad to have gotten in before the jump. I don't think it will happen for camera gear, but I just hope there isn't a trend like you see in the watch market every few years. Meh.

Posted recently by Nikon Japan. The price increase for the 180-600 lens (and a few other products) is meant to offset raw material, manufacturing, and logistics costs.
