DGI, Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Google, Tik Tok, Instagram, U Tube, Meta, 5G 6G what ever...........will dominate and determine the future for all of us.

Myself i am limiting my investment into still photography and traditional camera gear, i am researching the move into doing Drone Videography which is amongst the fastest emerging trend currently.

The commercial and industrial applications are exciting and growing expediently day by day.

Our local fire station police station when you call emergency will often have a drone on site well before they even arrive, how exciting.

Usually the TV networks have Drone Footage being aired of a scene before the traditional camera truck and crews even get to a site.

Aerial landscape environmental videography is spectacular to see.

"you’re going to be very busy soon."

And I just heard from local big retailer that following on the D500, the following cameras are discontinued
D850
D780
D7500

But yet to see anything in writing personally, but am told this is official
Perhaps a Z8 and a pro DX launch together? Nikon did a D5/D500, followed by a D850. This time maybe it’s just a slight change in the order? We will know in few weeks.

2017 The D850 in 2017 at B&H sells for$3300 USD and here in OZ $4300 AUD
2023 The D850 in 2023 at B&H sells for $2800 USD and here in Oz $3300 AUD

In Dec 2021 the Z9 was $8995 AUD
In Dec 2022 the Z9 was $7895 AUD
In Feb 2023 the Z9 is $7095 AUD only 14 months later and in the hands of box shifters ???? nearly down $2000 or nearly 22%

Is it necessary to introduce the Z9 II earlier ??? to introduce more urgently needed hardware changes to accommodate future feature up grades, ie: more processing power, i mean the Z9 has just caught up with the fleet, the last thing is it doesn't want is to fall behind again...........or it has a new change needing introduction to give it speed to keep up withe t fleet ready to accelerate ahead.

From memory

the Z6 came out in 2018
the Z6 II came out in 2020 because it was desperately needed.
the Z6 III would carry some major needed hardware changes one would think.

Is this a singe of the future, more models more often........... hence Steve said date the body marry the glass LOL. Love it the best advise ever isn't it.

I mean to me box shifters are a necessary evil, they are the last resort to move or quit product on price.

Arft me harties, there be strong winds ahead, batten down the hatches, hoist the main sail.............fasten the jib

Its a mistake to loose the D850, so killing of the DSLR main blood line is forcing the shift to mirror less, next the Z8 being in so much demand may not be compatible to FX glass and can only be used on expensive high margin Z glass, that will come eventually.

I wonder if It may also be the case in the Z9 II or III or IV ????

Hmm. All the major retailers in Oz have the Z9 at about the AU$8989-AU$8999 mark so, no real price drop since release in Dec 2021. Never seen any at the prices you have listed and you can't use grey import as an indicator.

And they have at times been lower, ccc is a on line dealer Becex is the same i did mention Box shifters

These look like grey imports and not genuine Australian stock from Nikon Australia. I would be very wary. Georges is a legitimate Nikon seller but that price is a particular sale price and not indicitave of their normal pricing nor from the genuine Nikon resellers. I stand by my original statement that the Z9s are not being discounted "and you can't use grey import as an indicator". For a AU$7,000 camera, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole as Nikon Australia won't fix them if they have an issue so, it could be a very expensive paper weight.
So, these prices are not indicatve of any large price shifting downwards of yet, they are just what grey importers always have done and that is sell at way below normal market prices hoping to catch a certain market that will buy at any discounted price.

I'm not fluent in Australian, but the way it reads to an American is that this is not a Nikon warranty, but rather a retailer one which is what we see here for gray market cameras. Maybe lost in translation. What does the asterisk next to the Local Network in the banner lead to?
There grey, i have refereed to them and others as Box Shifters, there are many of them globally and widely used by many leading manufacturers, they fully import with 12 months full warranty, offer repairs and service, they ship to your door FedEx, DHL etc, often they may have depending on the scale of their business volume and a product range in stock of fast moving items in a small warehouse here in Sydney like you find in Brooklyn, i went to B and H for a 50mm Nikon lens, they were on back order, i went to a box shifter in a unassuming warehouse in Brooklyn who had genuine stock at a great price, while there i incessantly or naively asked, are you part of B and H they said oh no, We are a wholesale importer and distributor, i guess you could call us Grey Market.
They had all sorts of stuff staked to the ceiling.

Many of the shops selling camera gear in Manhattan on the tourist strips got a lot of their gear from them so they said.

You can by appointment in Sydney call by and collect a popular product if held in stock but not with all Grey operators.
Who is safe good or bad is based on experience of friends and people you know well, there are far more good ones than bad or fake.
Many of my friends bought their D4 D4s d5 and lenses from Gray dealers, absolutely its not for everyone, many of my Asian friends have sorted out the good ones people seem to align with and when they do the delivery and service is lightening fast in their experience.

These kind of dealers import places have been around for decades, many of our club members buy gray and never had an issue...........as long as you join up for free as a member and have an account, there really good, usually if a product is faulty they ship it express to Hong Kong or Japan and send you a replacement subject to what issue is, or they may repair it.

I wanted a 200 F4 Macro Nikon, the local Nikon dealer had placed the order, it would be 7-10 days before shipping with a 2 -3 day delivery, i cancelled the order, bought on line from a Grey dealer in Oz called Digi Direct at the time, i paid on Thursday night around 11 pm with Pay Pal, Sunday yes dam Sunday 10 am there is a knock on my door it was my brand new Nikon lens shipped from Hong Kong, many of my friends mostly from Asia have all had withe the right grey dealer noting but a great experience them sleeves of super fast delivery with never a product or service issue.

Now the caveat: I have no experience with CCC i also have not heard any complaints either, Its up to the individual to choose where and what they buy and from whom, i make zero zilch recommendations, yes there are poor or suspect operations and services on line and that applies in many fields.

Generally I have found with Grey dealers, if there are a group of people i know or close friends who have worked out the good dealers i as so many have had NO issues with delivery or service, they are super fast with both.

What led to this point was the price of the Z9 has come down, be it Grey dealers doesn't matter, its being condoned.

That's what Box Shifters are, Gray, i have bought successfully from many different ones, as have many of our club members for decades.
Why they are going so low is the an early indication of somthing as over the past 3 months they have been getting lower and lower, Why.

I understand, I just question whether prices of grays has anything to do with the declining products. A couple of these here had the Z9 at $1,000 and $1,500 off list when the camera came out and no legit distributor had stock. Not passing judgment on the practice, just questioning the assertion that these prices signal anything.

They are probably going lower as there is actually more Z9 available now, no wait anywhere as you can basically go into any major camera retailer and pick one up almost off the shelf. A simple supply v demand scenario, no need to discount when they are scarce but discounts are widely available when production catches up with supply.

Fair assumption, i was questioning if it meant anything, i guess now that everyone's got stock the only point of difference is price to capture the sale not just sell full tilt on availability, now its draw them in on price and hope they sell you a camera bag and other stuff like lenses.

I wonder looking at the time line and the history of the Z6 and Z6II it points to a Z9 ii in 2023 late ?
If selling my Z9, it should have been sooner than later LOL

What ever the goodie bag surprise is in the March announcement, my wish list is

a) i hope its available in less than 12 month's
b) it is issue free
c) it does what its supposed to do
d) it wont be extortionate on price

Its just i am over it..................we deserve a break, not more take...........
