Nikon Interview - September 2022

Obscure and informative, and these articles were republished recently [22 December] by Nikon Imaging from 'Cameraholics extra issue 100 Percent Mastering The Nikon Z9" by Hobby Japan. The engineers confirm the reasons why the camera has several distinct features to maximize performance and reliability:

Part 2 discusses the Z Mount and designs of Z-Nikkors. Some of the answers by the leading engineers Kohama-San and Ishigami-San include interesting "in-house" and uncharacteristically candid comparisons and confirmations. These include the attributes of the AF systems of SLRs vs MILCs. They describe how Nikon's designers rely on the term 'Used Up' to describe the completeness of new products e.g. how the design 70-200 f2.8S is taken to the limits to exploit the full optical benefits/potential of the Z mount architecture. They confirm the Z mount architecture permits the design of a f0.6 optic!

Yes, this underscores what's been elucidated to exposure to optimize performance of the Z9 AF.

there are several revealing statements, some of which the Nikon guys stated without prompting.

Several of their responses confirm issues that are often discussed:

"...we decided to incorporate a video function suitable for the flagship model, and the development of the Z 9 started with the aim of creating a model for a wider range of customers... " [Emphasis added] unprecedented demand for the Z9 suggests Nikon succeeded.

Comparing the D6 and Z9 Autofocus, in Part 2:

"....Although the Z9 is superior in conditions that require quick tracking, the D6 may be superior in conditions where maximum speed is required, depending on the type of AF motor inside the lens...... there are some shooting conditions where the D6 is superior, so it is difficult to say which one is superior.... our goal is to win all games, but the SLR has an advantage due to the structure of the device...
