When the market was using 6 and 12 mp cameras i landed what was then the stunning 25mp D3X, i used this camera for everything, the results were breathtaking especially on my 300 2.8 VR II, 600 F4, 200 F4 macro,...........then i jumped to 45mp in the D850 and it was a preference over 16, 20, 24mp of today.
The D850 45mp made it hard to accept going back to 16 mp or even 20 mp.
The gap between 45 mp on the D850 compared to the 25mp on the D3x is not as large a difference compared to 12 to 25mp.
Be it on my Z9 Z8 D850 its hard to enjoy the level of outcomes going back down in mp.
It’s the same as once you use a Z9 Z8 using a Z6 or Z7 Z6II Z7II is not the same experience.
I had owned the D4s D5 D6 of which i loved all three enormously as brilliant tools, but i was more so dependent on long enough glass, i could on my D850 Z9 Z8 crop say using a 35mm lens out to 100mm, 200mm to 400mm...........600 to 700mm so to speak.
Using the right glass to fill the frame is a good rule but sometimes you don't have it with you when you actually need it, thankfully 45mp has some legs.
I would be happy if the Z7 III comes out with the Sony 61mp sensor.
45 - 50 mp is assumed the sweet spot for all round performance.
