Nikon Z8 RAW photos incompatible with Apple "Photos" app

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I have imported to MAC Photos for viewing by shooting in Raw + JPEG. Then export to hard drive and select RAW version and delete JPRG. Then edit in Lightroom.

At least you can see what you shot and maintain your old and hopefully future workflow.

For those that are technically adventurous, iOS 17.4 and macOS Sonoma Public Betas have preliminary support for Z8 and Zf Lossless Compression RAW files. The files will display in Apple Photos which can be helpful for mobile review. Not surprisingly, photos shot with High Efficiency* and High Efficiency files do not appear to be supported.

Hi Ray,

I just got this from an Apple representative.

My up to date Sonoma M1 MBP shows Z8 under RAW support and Photos was happy to import one.
Ok. Can you take the screen shots I have requested? I want to go back to Apple senior tech support to take this to the next step.
They claim that no Z8 support, specifically with your computer--maybe same as mine; and I won't let this rest until it is resolved. It may be another setting that has been modified that allows this. Possible in 'Security'. Important enough for all of us current and future Z8 owners. Thanks.
