Nikon's new Studio NX package

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I downloaded it to my iMac (running OS "Big Sur"), but was disappointed to find that it couldn't seem to get to my photos in the Photos app on my Mac. It seems that it will only look at photos that you've placed OUTSIDE of the Photos app. This makes it unusable for me.

Is anyone else having this problem?
It’s Nikon‘s issue for not using the plugins from Apple to make it work out of the box. Likely a license fee they don’t want to pay for what they are giving away as free software.

There is a way to see the focus point, but I can't recall how I turned it on. I first noticed it (focus point) in the film strip, but was not on the photo panel.
Hey Charles, just go to the main menu and select View > Image Viewer Options > Show Focus Point. The shortcut on a Mac is Shift/Command/F (maybe Shift/Control/F on PC). The shortcut will toggle the AF point on and off.

There's also a focus toggle icon bottom right ....left. Sorry, can't tell my left from my right!

one major issue for me (and several others mentioned this in the comments on DPReview) is that the "Open With" command now will only pass through NEFs. On NX-D you could specifiy if you wanted to open as a TIF or JPG. I use this ALL the time in my workflow to open from NX-D into Picture Window Pro, or Topaz, or NIK. With NX-Studio you'd first have to export a TIF, then reopen it in the secondary program. This is an extra annoying step and an extra file too. Hope they will fix this, until then I'll stick with NX-D.

I loaded it and have been using it. I have used NX-i to browse for years. This seems better. There is a way to see the focus point, but I can't recall how I turned it on. I first noticed it (focus point) in the film strip, but was not on the photo panel. I plan to learn it and stay with it. And photoshop too.
I like to save in PNG, this will not allow and will not show the PNG files.

Focus point is on bottom left menu.

Interesting. I find this software (on my iMac with Big Sur) literally unusable.
I have installed it, tried to use it, uninstalled it using the uninstaller and re-installed three times, including deleting its Library folder on one occasion and it crashes and/or gives a "Failed to load images" message if I try to do more than browse Nikon images.
I've tried it with Z6II and D850 raw files, with the same result.
I'm running Monterey and having the same issue, did you ever find a fix?

For me, and I’m running Os Big Sur too, the issue is with the photo app not MX Studio. Drag a raw image out of the Photo library and you’ll get it converted by the OS to a jpeg.
so I always download to a specific folder using Nikon Transfer, which is very fast with raw files. That way I have complete control of where my images are. Photo app doesn’t allow that. A big benefit is that as I’m using a Synology disc station on my lan, I have it set to automatic copy that folder and subfolder on any change. So Ian auto-back-up. Works wonderfully, and has done for the past five years or more!

PS re Synology, using the auto backup as mentioned in post #35, it means that the Synology app called “mobile photo“ has immediate access to those images … in other words, do a shoot, upload to your Mac using Nikon Transfer, then access the photos if you want to show them elsewhere using the mobile app. It’s practically seamless and painless!

In case this has not already been covered;

Nikon Nx Studio

For the Z9 firmware 2 download the latest version of NX Studio, ver1.2.0

Dual Monitors are supported at least for windows version. I do agree that the manual does a poor job of letting you know what you have to do!
Here is what you do for windows 10:

Move your Studio application to the second monitor using win 10 settings. Then go to the top menu and click on Edit, then go to Options, then to Viewer, then click on View images full-screen on a secondary display on the last menu item. You have to restart program. See Studio manual page 235.

When you open your program it will open on your secondary display but when you click on the icon on the top that looks like a monitor with arrows coming out with arrows, the full image from your filmstrip will open on your primary monitor.

Color Control Points are in Studio. You can find them in the Adjust menu. They allow for local adjustments to Brightness, Contrast and Saturation can be applied locally with a control point. See page 124 of the pdf manual.
