OK, the squirrel wasn't in much danger from the baby red shouldered hawks but mama and papa were nearby. They had just brought something to the nest (probably chipmunk). A juicy young squirrel would have been a welcome treat. Look at the gaze one of the babies is casting at the squirrel. It was funny they both perked up and looked at it. They were not really sure what they were supposed to do with it but they both seemed to understand instinctually that it was something that interested them.
