Cleaning up files and ran across the only reasonably successful shots I managed to capture of the tui(aka parson bird). These were from a trip pre-covid.

Wow! Great set! #1 and 4 for me! I'd love to take about 3 weeks or so to photograph in Australia! I've been there twice, but never with my gear!

Awesome pics. Love number 2 especially.
Thanks for the kind words.

Glad you enjoyed the shots, Karen. The D7200/80-400mm made for a reasonably small/light travel kit. Not sure what I'll take this time. We're headed back down there this Nov/Dec. Likely for the last time to Oz. We'll probably go to NZ once more time.

Beautiful series! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed the post, Larry.

Super find, thanks for sharing
Thanks for commenting, Charles. Glad you enjoyed the shots.

Nice set of images. Wondering why you settled on 1/250 shutter speed. Perhaps the eyes had a little more sharpness potential? Such a beautiful bird and well captured.

Just so beautiful, Dan. And the light was with you!
Thanks, Callie. I spent a lot of time "chasing" them. As the saying goes even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

Great set of shots!
Thanks, Woody.

I don't recall what my reasoning was but I suspect I was trying to keep ISO down. The D7200 wasn't famous for high ISO performance. And back then NR software wasn't great either. As to what you're seeing for sharpness, challenges with posting images here has been discussed previously in some detail. Bottom line is that critical analysis of posted images is a wild goose chase. I no longer attempt to optimize and have a simple one-size-fits-all export routine for posing/sharing.

Fantastic shots of this beautiful bird, Dan!
Thanks, Lance.

Dan, you told me that Tui's were your "nemesis".

Those shots are excellent !!
Coming away with four decent shots after seeing them every day over a total of eight weeks earned them nemesis statis by my definition. Finally got these shots in Ohope in the last couple of days of our second trip to NZ. While cleaning files the other day I remembered your thread so posted these up.

nice bird! and amazing photographs!! (y)
Thanks, Elena.

Excellent capture Dan,
Thanks for sharing.
Gavin
Glad you enjoyed them, Gavin.

Beautiful captures - esp #3. I can see why they call it a parson bird.
They are both beautiful and interesting birds.

Great series of shots. I have a D7100 and also the D7200. Glad to see such great shots out of your D7200. I have moved to a D810 and also D500, but still retain those D7100 and D7200 cameras-great stuff.
