PSA re BH Payboo Card new terms

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Think about it. To pay for my sales tax, 10%, it will cost either B&H or Comenity Bank (they offer the PayBoo card) need make a $ elsewhere. I doubt B&H contributes too much toward sales tax payment (my guess) so the bank needs to make off of fees and interest.

In the end someone has to pay and I am glad I get my purchases tax free (at least tax free to me).
Me too.

I certainly wouldn't use PayBoo as a credit card, though it makes a good charge card. Being able to pay out for a purchase interest free (but having to pay sales tax instead) may be a reasonable usage though. If I weren't already tax exempt, I would certainly use it. But the interest rate is criminal, nonetheless.

we use payboo at b&h all the time .

we never pay a penny in interest on any of our cards .

this year we redid all our cameras and lenses . we saved thousands in sales tax .

got a message from b&h today

Payboo now requires a text or email code be sent for confirmation of my identity every time I log in. Only the state of california is that paranoid. I'm going to cancel the card.
That is not being paranoid, that is being smart....Protecting themselves and their customers. I only wish there was a Applicator option along with the e-mail.

Ditto about only paying interest onc

In graduate school my girl friend use my card and when the bill came I asked her to pay it. She did but failed to include the cents, only paid the $. For the next few Months we paid interest much larger than the change she forgot to include!!
There must me a life lesson there for someone.....

That PayBoo is fantastic, if you pay it off with the tax free terms. I recently bought two times using my bank debit card @ Nikon USA and they did not tax me.

Speaking as someone whose wife was a VP of a large regional bank, there are two thing we never do: one is never make any financial transactions other than purchases under $2500 on-line; the second is to never carry a balance on a credit card. Yeah, they all want you to go paperless or carry a balance, but we prefer a paper trail for each transaction and why on earth would you want to pay 20%+ for a loan when you could have save up for a while and save that 20%+ -- instant gratification costs $$$.

A word of caution - check the small print carefully.

In the UK sometimes to avoid a 30% plus interest charge payment is when the money is credited to the account - as cleared funds.

This can be several days after the actual payment is received depending on the systems used – in which case paying on the last day does not achieve the desired result

word of caution about debt cards. WIth credit cards you have many more rights (such as disputing charges) which don't exist with debit cards Lots of good articles about the difference - here is one https://pirg.org/edfund/resources/the-dangers-of-debit-cards/

i wouldn’t ever use a debit card to buy anything

Thanks for the advice!! I have never had a problem, but I just cut that card and flushed it. I'll use a credit card or cash now.

We don't either -- you're just asking for trouble with a debit card. And if you're one of the many people who don't look closely at your bank statement or balance your checking account you might never even know a batch of your money is gone. A smart scammer won't clean everything out of your account, just most of it, which would delay discovery of the theft.

If you think it won't happen to you, just remember: Infinity makes the possible inevitable.

There is one debit card that is worth having if you travel internationally and that is the Schwab card that goes with their brokerage account because it reimburses all ATM fees and there are no limits on withdrawals. Very useful in that respect. through their app, you can block access after you make a withdrawal.
