This is what an airtag pocket might look like on a hood for a 300mm f/2.8 lens.
It's a significant hump There would be two small screws on the bottom to close it up.
On a two-piece hood, the only option would be to add it to the second section.
I really question the value of adding an airtag that's so obvious on a piece that's easily discarded a thief.
I am currently field testing a body cap that holds an airtag. I know that's been done before, but I'm trying to do a nicer one. It's no bigger standard body cap.
The lens caps don't have any vacant space in them either. Adding a tag on a cap would also mean planting a pretty big turd on it somewhere.
And the thieves will be keeping up with that info. As for myself, I'm just very careful and do not leave my expensive lenses "unattended". They travel with me in my carry-on, and I don't leave them in my vehicle. Of course that takes some planning and I tend to have only the lenses I know I'll need with me on a particular shoot.

You're in business to make money I could be all wet on the suggestion. Two things I would think is how many thieves would really be looking for that? I suspect most are dumping the stuff quickly for their next high.
If you were to put 2 lumps across from eacklh other how many bad guys would just think it's a finger rest to rotate the hood?
I'm more of a keep it close kind of person than hope to track it down later. Just throwing out suggestions for what it's worth!
I wish that people would quit talking about their security measures for their equipment. Doing so advertises such to the thieves and then they know to search for such and get rid of it immediately.
