I'm looking to improve my setup for carrying a camera in a fanny pack when carrying a camera is not the main idea. Walking around town or a casual stroll for example. Don't tell me cell phone, I feel that pull. So far I've been able to get my walk-around setup down to a small fanny pack that holds a Canon RP with a 50mm 1.8. Pack, camera, and lens combined weighs 2.1 pounds. So I'm happy with that, but at times I'd rather carry 2 lenses, but still keeping 2 hands free with a larger fanny pack or even a small backpack. Maybe swap the 50 for the larger and heavier 24-105 and add the 100-400. Or maybe keep the 50 and add the 100mm macro. Either way this would be 5+ pounds and a lot more bulk but maybe not too bad?

So what larger fanny packs or very small backpack/daypack do you know of or have used that are suited for camera and lens use?

Second vote for the Peak Design Sling. Easy to set up for camera with attached lens plus second lens. Can even attach a small travel tripod to the outside.

Those peak design are interesting. Can they be used as fanny pack or is it shoulder only?

I just got a Mountainsmith "Day" lumbar pack. This replaces my old one that I got in the late 80's early 90's. Not photography specific, but I like the large size. I never like wearing small backpacks while being active, and prefer the fanny pack style if not hauling that much stuff or going that far.

I use the Lowe Pro Sideline Shooter waist bag but it has been discontinued. The closest thing to it is the Evoc 7L hip bag with inside dimensions of 11.4 x 7.1 x 4.3". I want to have a bag that will hold the 70-200mm lens or two smaller lenses and with an exterior pocket for cleaning supplies, spare battery, memory card holder.

I use this one:

I guess I envision the camera with the 24-105 mounted lens vertical back of camera facing up, with a 2nd lens possibly a tele positioned vertical next to it. Is that too much to carry on the waist?

You could also have a look at Lowepro Inverse 200 belt pack. I’ve used these before and found quite versa.

Well in “the States” your backside is often referred to as your fanny. In Australia and many other places fanny is sort of polar opposite.
Here we have “bum bags” (fanny pack), belt packs and waist belt/pack.

my niece says its her front bottom. 5 yr old

Someone recently told me what a chipmunk smuggler was. Had to stand there scratching my fanny while I thought about it.

Think Tank Sling bag. They make several styles depending on how strenuous you want to be :) Strong recommendation for their stuff.

That looks good. The video where he spun it to the front to get his gear without taking it off was cool.

I took a trip to my local camera store and tried a few. The photocross looks like the winner, but they didn't have a 10 in stock, only a 13, and had no idea when I could get a 10.

Thanks to all that chimed in. Now get your fannies out there and take some pictures.
