Thanks very much for the kind words Rudy, and please continue with the suggestions as I'm always exploring ideas and approaches to see what works best.Hi Gary,
Sorry I haven't commented earlier, I've been crazy busy looking for the newly arrived Snowy Owls in our area ( I found them ), plus I needed to attend to a bunch of stuff that needed doing around the house. I wanted to really take my time with a great cup of coffee watching and considering your new video and not just banging off some kind of throw-away comment, and this morning I was free to do so. In fact, I enjoyed watching both your recent SEO videos a number of times.
Well Gary, as always after watching one of your productions, I struggle to limit myself to the number of superlatives I use so as not to sound too over the top. As with your previous Short-eared Owl video, this one is a real winner! I like everything about it from the video recording and tracking ( superb as always - yea Sachtler ), to the scene selection and cutting (which tells the story visually), to the editing and colouring (excellent as always), and finally, to the music selection and the perfect video cuts which you made on the major musical beats and pace changes. This video is another fabulous gem to add to your impressive collection of treasures.
I guess that little Shortie knew it had better hand over its catch to that big bruising Hawk or risk a serious drubbing, eh?
Cheers and thanks for sharing,
Rudy
Thanks very much Lance!Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks for the kind words OVG! I'm just an enthusiast videographer with more time than talent but occasionally I trip into a lucky shooting situation like when this flock of SEO's were hunting mid-day which is unusual around here. I'm using Nikon equipment, mostly a Z8 and to a lesser extend a Z6III and few lenses including the 600TC. I used to shoot the Sony A1 but prefer Nikon for wildlife videography due to the video wider recording options and lens selection. The A9III with the global shutter is an interesting camera but lacks the high resolution sensor I need for "reach" -- I often use the 4k120p 2.3x crop DX mode on the Z8 for extra reach. This is truly an exceptional video…bravo. Great storytelling, pacing, composition and music choice. I’m a veterean video shooter and I’d be very happy to have this in my portfolio. I’m curious as to what gear you’re using. If you’re using mirrorless I suggest looking into the new(ish) Sony A9III as it has a global shutter and will eliminate the rolling shutter effect that popped up a couple of times in the video. It’s subtle and certainly not a deal breaker, but someone with your talent and access to wildlife like this would benefit from the new technology that Sony has introduced in that camera. It’s a great hybrid cam that excels in the video space. Fantastic work!
