Smoky Mountains in the Fall

Fantastic!! When is the best time for fall photos in the smokies?
Gordon, I have been to the Smoky Mountains in the spring, mid-summer, and early fall with the trees just changing. I love all the seasons in the Smoky's but recoomend the fall, just realize it's crazy busy (pre COVID-19) during that time of the year.

I don't remember the name of the hotel, but the one I like is within walking distance of the entrance .

Also note that there are lots of places for great pictures so give your self lots of time. There are the early places you want to be at the gates around 5 am and other places at 9 pm. It's one of my favorite parks after Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NP.

Gordon - I just found the trip write up and we stayed in Gatlinburg. Can't believe we didn't capture the name of the hotel. When you plan your trip, allocate one entire day for the drive to Cades Cove and be sure to start early that morning. You will make many stops along the river going to Cades Cove, besides it breaks up that twisty road since it follows the river.

Also, be sure to ask the Park Rangers for a map and go to Laurel Falls. It's about 1.2 miles each way and the path is paved. Lots of people use this path for the beatiful water falls at the end of the trail. Note, it's up hill most of the way and of course, easy downhill walk back to the parking lot. There are benches if you need to stop and rest. You need wide angle zoom lens for the water falls. Watch the unpaved paths around the falls, there are good view points. And at the top your walking on the rocks. It is so worth the hike. The last time we went, the wife stayed in the car and read and I parked 1/8 mile from the parking lot since it was full. This is a must see walk.

Gordon, that is really nice. Be sure to take them out to eat a couple of times. There are lots of restaurants and about 20% are worth eating at. Ask them for recommendations and/or look on line for reviews at Trip Advisor.

This picture of the Grand Teton Mt was taken at one of the pull offs along the circle drive. I also used a polarizer so the blue and white would pop. No issues with the file size upload.

Nice photo!

For the record the Grand Teton is just out of frame on the right :) but a very nice image of the Southern Teton range.
