Thanks WoodyWow!
What a pellet that would make!Great shot, perfectly timed. The question is, are squirrels part of this owl's diet?
Thanks RobinGreat shot taken just right Moment
Wow, a once in a lifetime shot!I've been shooting a pair of Great Horned Owls for a few weeks, coming back every couple of days to their nest. Usually the male would be very close by, but on this day it wasn't there. It must have been out hunting. Anyway, this squirrel was jumping from branch to branch in the tree the nest was in. I was watching and waiting for the moment to capture this shot. The owl popped its head out from the nest and surprised the squirrel, face to face. The weird thing was, the female owl didn't do anything. The squirrel ran off untouched.

Thanks MarkymarkGreat capture Irap, great shot.
Thanks DanWow, what a great shot! And thanks for filling us in - I assumed you'd follow with a shot of an owl eating a squirrel. That was one lucky little squirrel.
Thanks pkk, that's interesting. That's really a great shot. I've seen several instances of squirrels taunting owls, especially juveniles. They seem to run up and dare the owl to try to catch them. Owls are too cumbersome when they are perched to catch a squirrel that's aware of his presence. Of course one day he gets a little careless...
