Strange Airport Security Experience - TSA needed to swab my Z 100-400 zoom

I’ve only had one bad experience with tsa and that was with an expensive fly rod as I was heading to Montana with my son for a fishing trip. This guy had, I guess, never seen a 5 piece fly rod in a case before. He had no idea what it was, got really snippy when I told him it was a fishing rod. He said he had never seen a fishing rod like that before and called a supervisor over. The supervisor told him it was just a fishing rod and wished me good luck fishing. It was probably wrong of me to tell the supervisor his employee was an idiot. The lady who was the supervisor smiled and again wished me good luck on the fishing trip.
